The “Riken Meigyo” hanging scroll housed at Hyakumanben Chionji Temple in Kyoto is a very large scroll said to have been given to the 8th abbot Zen'a Kuoen by the Emperor Godaigo. Due to the threat of deterioration, it could only be displayed at limited memorial services, but we decided to create a facsimile in response to the desire to display and pray for the Riken Meigou, which is said to be beneficial in dispelling plague and disease. After taking precise photographs using a gigapixel art scanner, we reproduced even the blurring of the surface and the texture of the material in print. After repeated proofreading against the original, the scroll was made into a full-size hanging scroll.
