Daido Moriyama “Yowa” 1980s Remnants

In April 1987, I met Mr. Moriyama for the first time for the purpose of making a photo book. On the day we met, a cardboard box containing about 1,000 prints was placed in front of me with the words, “Please make it as you like. (From the postscript by Michitaka Ota)

(From a postcard by Michitaka Ota) “A Journey to Nakaji” in 1987 and “Dream of Water” in 1999. The photographs that did not make it into the box were left in the storage box for a long time, and Mr. Ota asked me to keep them. In 2022, when Ohta learned that there were not many prints left in Japan from the 1980s, he decided to send them to the Shimane Art Museum, where they were reviewed for the first time in 20 years, and he felt that he could give form to them.
