12th Anniversary Book “KYOTOGRAPHIE: Kyoto Stories | Twelve Zodiac Signs”

To commemorate the 12th anniversary of KYOTOGRAPHIE and the completion of a full cycle of the Chinese zodiac, we will explore the story of the festival through this book. It began with a big dream and eventually grew into an international photography event. Guided by the personal stories of co-founders and co-directors Lucile Reyboz and Yusuke Nakanishi, we trace the people, places, and moments that have shaped the festival.

Essays and testimonials by leading figures in various fields, including artists and curators, accompany the story. Mami Kataoka, Francois Eber, and Richard Corass explore the development and cultural significance of the festival. In a dialogue between Usbi Sako, Omar Victor Diop, and Claude Grenetsky, themes such as diaspora, photography, and transculturalism are explored in depth. In a dialogue between scenographer Keimatsu Konishi, Lucile Reyboz, and Yusuke Nakanishi, the ideas and aesthetics behind the festival's spatial design are discussed. Furthermore, through a conversation between Genbei Yamaguchi and Yusuke Nakanishi on the culture and history of Kyoto, and the perspectives of Lauren Hadler and Lucile Reyboz on the community, the relationship between the festival and the city is explored.

Furthermore, the dialogue between Genbei Yamaguchi and Yusuke Nakaniwa on Kyoto's culture and history, and the perspective on the community by Lauren Hadler and Lucile Raybois, shed light on the relationship between the festival and the city. The essence of the festival, supported by a spirit of love and care, is expressed in heartwarming conversations between Rong Rong & Inri, Lucile Reyboz, and Yusuke Nakanishi.
The question of how artists can build a place that nurtures creativity and community is revealed.

This book, filled with photographs and dialogue, is not merely an archive. It is a hymn to the community that supports the festival and a testament of gratitude to all those who have made it possible. Whether you are new to KYOTOGRAPHIE or have visited the festival and shared the same experience, through this book, you will encounter the stories and ideas that have shaped this unique festival.
