Artist Profile Toshiya Murakoshi Born in Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture, in 1980. He primarily photographs his hometown of Fukushima Prefecture, continuing to capture images that trace the latent memories of people, his own memories, and the memories of the land. Since the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, he has focused more intensively on photographing Fukushima, using photography to uncover changes and contradictions in the landscape, as well as differences in people's visual perceptions. He has published numerous photo books and established his own gallery in 2009, demonstrating a conscious approach to the means and venues for presenting his work. He has received the Japan Photographic Society Newcomer Award (2011) and the Sagamihara Photo Newcomer Encouragement Award (2015). His works are housed in the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Fukushima Prefectural Museum, and the City of Sagamihara.
