Leo Leoni and Friends

Leo Leoni's works, such as the picture books “Swimmy” and “Aoi to Kiiro-chan,” have been loved by people of all ages in Japan. His life was set in motion when he met futuristic artists in Italy. Thereafter, he worked as an art director in the United States in the advertising and magazine industries. In his later years, while traveling back and forth between his beloved Italy and the United States, he created paintings, sculptures, and picture books, which had long been his passion. This book traces Leo's “enthusiasm for creation,” which never faded in the midst of his diverse activities, along with his years of research and study. It also includes works by Bruno Munari, Ben Shahn, Eric Carle, and other artists with whom Leo had close relationships. The book also introduces episodes with Leo, letters, Christmas cards, etc., and focuses on his interactions with artists who lived in the same era.
