Works
Atsushi Suwa is a painter with outstanding drawing techniques. This collection covers his representative works as well as new works. Atsushi Suwa (b. 1967, Hokkaido) is a contemporary painter known for his exquisite reproductive depictions. Based on an enormous amount of research, he is known for his realistic paintings that seem to get close to the inner life of the subject. This book is a collection of his works, covering his major works to date as well as his latest works, in conjunction with his solo exhibition held at the Fuchu Art Museum (December 17, 2022-February 26, 2011). The book features approximately 70 works, including his signature “Abandoned People” series, “Mimesis” modeled after Takao Kawaguchi, a still-life created during the Corona disaster, and “Sphinx,” as well as a wealth of visuals. In addition to an essay by the artist himself, the book also includes a detailed commentary by Kyō Kamata of the Fuchu Art Museum, and newly written texts by photographers Risaku Suzuki, Satomi Yamamoto (professor at Waseda University), and Hisako Koike (professor at Kokugakuin University). Atsushi Suwa Painter, born in Hokkaido in 1967. He received a master's degree in oil painting from Musashino Art University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1994 and won the grand prize at the 5th International Painting Competition of the Barceló Foundation, Spain, in 1995, In 2020, he was awarded the Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon. His major exhibitions include “Atsushi Suwa: Painting Works” (Suwa City Museum of Art, 2011), “Atsushi Suwa: HARBIN 1945 WINTER” (Nariyama Gallery, 2016), and “Atsushi Suwa: Fire Behind the Eyeball” (Fuchu Art Museum, 2022).
